Log Frogs are steel building cleats designed for controlling logs while fitting logs into place, scribing notches and long grooves, cutting saddles, notches and long grooves, sanding, and rotating logs into the correct position for scribing. Log Frogs will be used every time you work with logs or place a new log on the log wall, making them one of the most used tools in your building yard!
You can stop using those older style log dogs or log cleats immediately. Log Frogs make it easier and safer to hold logs in place for; scribing, peeling, measuring, notching, sanding and cutting. Log Frogs are great for log home builders and timber framing.
Log Frogs are made to perform two main tasks; hold and allow rotation of a log or timber in place for: scribing, peeling, measuring, sanding, notching, chainsaw carving and wherever else you need to prop up a timber to be worked on. Always rotate logs toward the interior of the building to avoid logs rolling off the end of the wall.
An improvement over older style log cleats is the Log Frogs’ smoothly-gradually-curved “catenary” arch (the strongest arch in architecture) does not dig into the logs being rotated, making them rotate with less effort. A big improvement over the older style log dogs is these log cleats are stable! Log Frogs are less likely than your other, wobbly cleats that love to fall off the log wall because Log Frogs have three feet!
Log Builders and timber framers love how versatile and easy it is to control small to very large diameter logs!
Why Are Log Frogs Unique?
Log cleats of the past have been made from welded flat steel and were highly unstable and more likely to slip out of place. I personally made many of these in the early days and always wondered if there was a better design. Flat steel used in the older style log cleats caused much friction, scarring and sinking into softer woods making it much more difficult to rotate logs in place. Log Frogs have a special design to resist friction and anti-sinking foot tabs that prevent the feet from sinking into the lower log. Log Frogs are zinc-coated to resist rust making them last for many years and also do not get paint all over your logs. Typically, you’ll want a pair hanging on each corner of your building and a several pair over in your peeling crib. Log Frogs are made in the U.S.A in Minnesota! Order enough for your project below…
